Accessibility Statement

Our commitment
A17News is committed to making its website accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or the technology used to access it. We believe that access to AI news should not be a barrier for anyone.
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard, which is the internationally recognised benchmark for web accessibility and the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and equivalent legislation worldwide.
Measures we have taken
- Semantic HTML - pages are built with proper heading structure, landmark regions, and meaningful HTML elements so screen readers can navigate content logically.
- Keyboard navigation - all interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard alone, with visible focus indicators on every focusable element.
- Colour contrast - text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios in both light and dark themes.
- Responsive design - the site adapts to any screen size and supports browser zoom up to 400% without loss of content or functionality.
- Alternative text - images that convey information have descriptive alt text. Decorative images are hidden from assistive technologies.
- Dark and light mode - the site respects your system colour-scheme preference and provides a manual toggle, reducing strain for users with light sensitivity.
- No time limits - no content on the public feed has time limits or auto-advancing elements that cannot be paused.
- No flashing content - we do not publish animations or videos that flash more than three times per second.
- ARIA labels - interactive components that cannot be described by visible text alone use appropriate ARIA labels and roles.
Known limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, some areas are still being improved:
- Third-party linked content - articles and pages linked from our bulletins are published by third parties. We have no control over their accessibility and cannot guarantee they meet any accessibility standard.
- Embedded images - some story-card images sourced from external publishers may not always have the most descriptive alt text available. We are working to improve this.
Standards and guidelines
A17News aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. WCAG defines requirements for improving the accessibility of web content for people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
